Deficient oestrus detection is the most important cause of infertility in breeding herds.
Typically, sows are checked for oestrus once a day and gilts twice a day. Oestrus
detection can be improved by observing sow behavior while the boar is given direct
contact with the sow. However, sows and gilts will become fatigued and refractory to
boar in less than an hour even if they are in heat. The use of BoarScent will
help in determining the onset of oestrus in the absence of a "teaser" boar.
